A hotel ballroom brought back into use

The Royal Marine Hotel's ballroom sits in a building from 1854 with little insulation. Convection heaters could not keep it warm, so the room went unused through the colder months. Owner Richard Carig had infrared heating fitted when the ballroom was refurbished.

The problem

A large room in an 1854 building with little insulation. Convection heaters only warmed the air and struggled to heat the space, so the ballroom was effectively unusable for much of the year.

What we fitted

Infrared panels sized to the 100 m² ballroom, installed by our engineer James in a single day as part of the refurbishment. No boiler, no new pipework through the old walls.

The result

A room that is warm, comfortable and usable all winter. Richard now plans to roll infrared out across the rest of the hotel over the next year or so.

Why infrared for business

Why infrared suits commercial buildings

Most workplaces are heated the same way homes are: warm the air and hope it reaches people. In big rooms, tall rooms and rooms used at different times, that wastes a lot of heat. Commercial infrared heating works differently.

Heats people, not the roof space

Warm air rises and collects under high ceilings. Infrared warms the people, floors, walls and furniture it reaches, so halls, churches, ballrooms and warehouses feel warm at head height.

Zoned by room and by hour

Every zone has its own control and schedule. Meeting rooms, function suites and empty floors stay off until they are booked, instead of heating the whole building all day.

No boiler, flue or plant room

Panels run on electricity with no moving parts, so there is no boiler to service, no pipework to leak and no plant room taking up space you could use.

Quick to fit, little disruption

Panels mount on walls or ceilings and wire into your existing supply. The 100 m² hotel ballroom above was finished in one day.

Kinder to old buildings

Warming the fabric of the room helps keep walls drier and cuts condensation. No new pipe runs are needed through historic walls or floors.

Ready for solar and batteries

Because it runs on electricity, infrared can use power from your own solar panels and a battery, charged when grid prices are low.

Questions

Business heating, answered

What kinds of buildings suit infrared?

Offices, retail units, studios, churches and heritage buildings, and rented homes. Anywhere with high ceilings or rooms used at different times.

Can we heat only the areas in use?

Yes. Every zone has its own control, so meeting rooms and empty floors are not heated all day.

Do you provide a specification?

Yes. We survey the building and provide a full specification and fixed quote.

Can you install while our business keeps trading?

Usually, yes. Panels mount on walls or ceilings and connect to your existing supply, so there is no heavy building work. We agree install times with you at the survey. A 100 m² hotel ballroom took one day.

Is infrared suitable for listed and heritage buildings?

Yes. Panels need no new pipework through historic walls or floors, and warming the fabric of the room helps with damp and condensation. If your building is listed, check with your local conservation officer, as some changes need listed building consent.

What does commercial infrared heating cost to run?

It depends on the size of the space, how well it holds heat and how many hours each zone is used. After the site survey we give you a running cost estimate for your building alongside the fixed quote.

Can infrared run on our own solar power?

Yes. Infrared runs on electricity, so it can use power from solar panels on your roof and from a battery charged when grid prices are lowest. We can quote for all three together.

Where do the panels go?

On walls or ceilings, positioned at the survey so each zone is covered evenly. In public areas such as halls, bars and receptions they are usually fitted high, out of the way.

Do you install outside Glasgow?

Yes. We survey and install in commercial buildings across mainland Scotland, from city-centre offices to rural churches, village halls and hotels.
